BlakDance invests into the next generation of Indigenous producers

BlakDance is proud to announce the addition of Hannah Scanlon as Trainee Producer.

Joining Executive Producer Merindah Donnelly and General Manager Jane Fuller, Hannah, a Wiradjuri women will work to continue the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contemporary dance.

With a broad range of experience from touring internationally with Insite Arts on SandSong, to working on Soul Music 2010, QPAC Out of the Box, Spirit Festival, Expressions Dance Company, and Meryl Tankard. Hannah also has a Bachelor of Creative Industries (QUT) and an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts). About her new role, Hannah says,

Fred Leone also remains with BlakDance as Protocol Producer | Gurin Gira (Long Fire). Fred’s role is integral within BlakDance as he works directly with Elders and communities to develop programs focused on cultural maintenance and cultural protocols.

Building administrative infrastructure for future growth

BlakDance has committed to the development of the long term infrastructure of the organisation.  Shannon King has been formally appointed in the role of marketing and administrative support, with Leesa Watego as Media Officer. Both Shannon and Leesa bring years of experience in the arts, digital media, and community organisations.

2017 Australian Dance Awards

BlakDance is proud to be presenting the award for Outstanding Performance by a Company at the Australian Dance Awards.

The nominees in this category are:

  • Bangarra Dance Theatre – OUR Land People Stories

  • Queensland Ballet – Strictly Gershwin

  • Sydney Dance Company – Untamed

The 2017 Australian Dance Awards are presented by Ausdance Victoria, Harlequin Floors and Ausdance National. The 2017 Australian Dance Awards will be held on Sunday 24 September in The Playhouse at Arts Centre Melbourne.
