First Nations Fellowships

BlakDance, STRUT Dance, and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Eastman will support two First Nations dance artists to join the cast of Manifest, a world premiere by world-renowned Belgian/Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkoaui to be presented by STRUT Dance during Perth Moves at the Perth Festival 2025.

First Nations Dialogues

First Nations Dialogues tanzmesse - Düsseldorf, Germany is a curated experience of global Indigenous performances, discussions, workshops, and protocols across internationale tanzmesse nrw 28 - 31 August 2024.

It is for us, by us* and at times, we invite the broader tanzmesse delegates to join us for insights into our collective experience. 

Led in Australia by BlakDance, in partnership with TAIWAN MOVE!, The Dance Centre Vancouver, Canadian Association for the Performing Arts (CAPACOA), Creative Australia and tanzmesse.

PLATFORM

BlakDance is pleased to announce Platform, an initiative of Abbotsford Convent and BlakDance, a First Nations-led creative development program for multi-generational choreographers and contemporary dance artists. 

Announcing First Collective Residencies

Australasian Dance Collective (ADC) and BlakDance are thrilled to launch First Collective Residencies for established and emerging First Nations choreographers and dancers over the next two years.

BLAK FUTURES

In a revolutionary moment for dance in this country, Blak Futures is an unprecedented two day event that sees some of our fiercest Blak artists converge on Kaurna Yerta to plant the seeds of the future of blak dance.

A collaboration between Australian Dance Theatre, BlakDance and Adelaide Festival’s Time to Talk series, Blak Futures sees First Nations Artistic Directors from funded dance companies gather on Kaurna Yerta to plant the seeds of the future of blak dance and artistry in this country.

Facilitated by Marilyn Miller and Wesley Enoch AM, Blak Futures will see artists Gary Lang (NT Dance Company), Frances Rings (Bangarra Dance Theatre), Jacob Boehme (Idja Dance Theatre), Dalisa Pigram (Marrugeku), Daniel Riley (Australian Dance Theatre), Joel Bray (Joel Bray Dance) and Thomas E.S Kelly and Taree Sansbury (Karul Projects) reimagine what dance can be in this country.
